Flash Fiction is a Paying Market, miss mippy
These online magazines offer payment for short stories under 1,000 words in length.

The market for short-short stories, known as "flash fiction", is rapidly expanding. Existing short story markets have opened their submission guidelines to include fiction less than 1,000 words, and new magazines, both online and offline, are appearing that focus specifically on publishing flash fiction.

Here are a few markets that pay for micro-fiction stories.

Paying Market: Flash Fiction Online

This website has grown rapidly in a short period of time, and regularly offers high-quality flash fiction. A subscription is free, and in addition to subscribing to the RSS feed, readers can listen to the story via podcast on iTunes.

Flash Fiction Online is a great website for short story writers to attract a readership. The editor claims to have an affinity for fantasy and science-fiction, but all genres are welcome. Stories must be between 500 and 1,000 words and can be submitted by email. Each story receives payment of $50.

Paying Market: Every Day Fiction

This magazine focuses on delivering "bite-size" fiction every day. While the payment is low, there is no minimum word count, so long as the story is under 1,000 words.

Stories can be submitted through an online form on the Every Day Fiction website, and authors may submit up to three stories at a time. Payment per story is $3.

Paying Market: Literary Potpourri

Literary Potpourri is a print literary journal that features short stories, flash fiction, and poetry. Flash fiction submissions must be 1,000 words or less.

Submissions are accepted through email only at inkpot@veryfast.biz, and only one is allowed per writer per month. Payment is $10 per flash fiction story.

Paying Market: Flashquake

Flashquake is a literary publication that focuses on flash fiction, flash nonfiction, poetry, and artwork. They are only open to submissions on certain dates, so writers should check their submission guidelines carefully before sending.

Flashquake stories should be less than 1,000 words, with shorter being preferred by the editors. Payment ranges from $5 to $25.

Paying Market: Bound Off

This website is seeking literary fiction between 250 and 2,500 words to be read aloud for their podcast. For writers with the ability to create a high-quality mp3 recording, they offer the opportunity for the author to narrate his/her own story.

When submitting, be sure to include the total read-aloud time of the story. Submission is made via email, and Bound Off pays writers $20 per story.

Earn Money By Writing Flash Fiction

The payment for flash fiction is small, but remember, the story is short! Short story writers that devote time to producing quality flash fiction can potentially earn significant money, as well as get their name printed in several publications.
